SAWATRAVEL TOGETHER

4  WEEKS
AUTUMN  2018

Airbus gave us the mission to design the lower deck of Airbus A350 into a passenger cabin. Our team decided to focus on how to create a cabin which would provide the option of a more social travel experience, for passengers flying in groups, such as families, friends or business travelers.

Everyone in our team were involved in research, ideation and concept developement. After choosing a final concept, my main tasks were to design, 3D model and render the Lounge area of the concept.

TO
Redesign lower deck into
passenger cabin

DURING
The entire travel time between
takeoff and landing

FOR
Creating new travel experience

WITH
Full seating plan

In our concept SAWA we split the cabin into two sections:

1. The lounge area near the entrance where
passengers can choose to go to in
    between take-off and landing.

2. Assigned group seating customized for
passengers flying in groups, such as
    families, friends or business travelers.

Guided by light
According to our research, one of the most time consuming stages before takeoff is when passengers tries to find their seat. Using a NFC reader to light up a path guiding you to your seat, for easier and more efficient boarding.

Let’s do a walk-through of the cabin!

Under the Lucka
In the lounge area, the travelers can relax under the Lucka (Swedish for “hatch”). Providing a sense of orientation of the outside world, the passengers can look up at the sky as it turns from day to night. A reflection of the sun projects from the ceiling and turns when the plane turns to give a realistic sense of a Lucka.

The possibility of moving
One of the most common wishes from the people we interviewed was to have the possibility to stand up and move somewhere during long flights. The lounge area allows the travelsers to chat with each other, relax in the sofa or stand up and stretch for a bit.

Down is up
We wanted to give a feeling of being at the upper deck when being in the lower deck. This is a premium area and one of our goals was to give the passengers a premium experience even though you walk down.
